As a beginning home brewer, I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on an elaborate home brew kit nor have to read tons of books on how to do it. My goal was to try it, and if I liked the finished product, play with it some more.

This seems like a pretty thorough book so far (I'm about 1/3 of the way through it). My only complaint, and I admit I'm nitpicking a little, is the style. For some reason the author chose to use contractions in the book that normally would be avoided in an instructional manual. You would think the more conversational style would make it easier to read, but it actually makes it more difficult because the contractions are so unexpected. I find myself stumbling over them fairly regularly. Having said that, if you read a lot of fiction and not many technical manuals or text books, you probably won't notice it at all. Despite this slight problem, I'm still very happy with the purchase. 4 1/2 stars.
